TOPIC: Defeating Abuse of Power: The Psychology of Serial Abusers of Power and the red flags to monitor before a fraud or sexual misconduct scandal

Program Description:

The headlines of business and political leaders who abused their power for personal gain have become a regular occurrence. The psychological toll and financial consequences for those left in the wake of such abuses in the workplace can be devastating. The patterns in these cases can teach us how to protect ourselves, vulnerable colleagues, and the organizations themselves from covert ways that abuse of power happen in the workplace. In this presentation, Stephanie will share her personal experience, academic research, and original models to illuminate areas of liability, shame, and blame.

About the speaker

For more than 20 years, Stephanie Hartman has provided Leader, Team and Organization Effectiveness support to large and small businesses in wide ranging industries such as financial services, technology, B2B professional services, agriculture, restaurants and home services.

Early in her career, she worked at an international aerospace and defense firm and led a team of Organization Effectiveness consultants who coached executives, aligned teams, and facilitated strategic planning as well as major change initiatives. As president of Catalyst, Stephanie has adapted methods typically used in large corporate settings for practical use by small businesses.

Stephanie has a Master’s in Industrial & Organizational Psychology from Lamar University, a Bachelor’s in Psychology from St. Mary’s University, and is a member of the Society for Consulting Psychology, the Association for Talent Development and the Forbes Coaches Council.

Learning objectives:

  • Participants will be able to identify predatory behaviors of a leader who serially abuses power as well as individual and system vulnerabilities to such abuse.

Cancellation Policy and No Shows

If you have registered and/or paid for an event and you need to cancel, you MUST email no later than 5 days prior to the event, unless otherwise indicated in specific event policies, to request a refund and/or cancel your registration. The Chapter must confirm event registrations with the venue within 5 days of the event and any changes after this time period can become a financial cost to the Chapter. Cancellations received less than 5 days prior to events will not be refunded except for exigent circumstances.

In the event an attendee does not show up to the event, the registration cost will be forfeited. If payment at the door was the selected method, then the attendee will be billed for the full cost of the event. The Chapter reserves the right to bar for future registration any attendees who routinely register and fail to pay and/or attend the event.
