TOPIC: Using Online and Social Media Sources for Due Diligence

Speaker: Mason Wilder, CFE
Research Specialist/ACFE/Austin

Program Description:

In this session, the speaker will go over Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) techniques for due diligence investigations. Using information readily available through online sources, including social media, provides valuable context for any number of business functions relevant to certified fraud examiners, including background checks, mergers & acquisition support, and traditional investigation preparation, to name a few. In addition to covering sources and research techniques, the speaker will discuss considerations such as planning online investigations and legal compliance.

About the speaker

Mason Wilder works in the Research department of the ACFE as a Research Specialist, updating and creating new self-study courses, writing content for the various ACFE publications, and responding to member and media inquiries. He has a Bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Texas and a professional background in corporate security intelligence and investigation, including risk assessment, travel security, threat intelligence, crisis response, executive protection support, background investigation, and due diligence.

Learning objectives:

  • Recognize challenges, obstacles, and considerations associated with using online sources in investigations
